Day 4: The Volcano

At 7 AM we went to hike the volcano. The top is over 9,000 ft. elevation.

It was a lot harder than we thought it would be.

Cadari Tired
The volcano got the best of me, only made it an exhausting 1/4 of the way up. Its time to get some conditioning under my belt.

In the picture below, you can see where we started walking from, our hotel (circled in red).

The funny thing is that this picture was taken much before we were half way.

As we climbed we say plenty of corn and coffee trees.

This is how the trail looked generally.

This is our guide, Francisco. I got to speak a lot of spanish with him. He spoke almost no english, and the hike was a total of 6 hours. We talked about family a bit, moving out, relationships, religion, nature and politics. He corrected me when I was being non-sensical, and I really appreciated that. I believe once I said, "I saved my money to become an old woman".

Lake Atitlan To of Volcan

The view was incredible.

I'm the only one in the group that brought boots, and I was very happy I did.

I met a few people at the top including Anthony Brzeski who took my picture for me ( two above). He's into his trip just over a year, and has almost seen the whole world. Check out his blog here: http://worldinprogress.fr

And of course many lizards.

After the journey down I found a smoothie shop. A smoothie was 5Q (65 cents) so I got 2. They were delicious.
